Can I cook 2 cakes in the oven at the same time? Will it affect temperature or cooking time?
By Bethany. Filed in Cooking & Recipes |One Armed Scissor asked:
I have one cake on the top shelf and one on the bottom, both of the same size and same mixture. It’s a fan-forced oven heated to 160C or 320F and the recipe recommends I cook for 45-50mins. Does having 2 cakes in the oven make a difference? Will I need to adjust cooking time or temperature. Will I need to rotate the cakes?

How to Sleep Better
No it does not. Only if you have a different amount of batter in one pan.

I would recommend rotating the cakes half way through baking.

You might want to rotate the cakes, but it shouldn’t effect the baking otherwise.

You shouldn’t need to add much, if any, time. Rotating the cakes wouldn’t be a bad idea as long as you can do it quickly w/o the oven cooling off too much in the process.

Every oven is different. If you aren’t familiar with your oven, I would recommend trading shelf places half way through cooking.
