Looking at Microwave Cooking

Sunday, June 28th, 2009
Tom Tessin

Microwave cooking became all the range in modern society because it cooks food in a very short amount of time. Microwave cooking became very popular when food manufacturers started making foods that could be made very quickly with a great taste. The first innovative format was that of TV Dinners used by airlines to serve their passengers. Microwaves became very useful in hospitals as a form of sterilizing surgical instruments. The system uses very little electricity so it became known as a very economical way to prepare a meal. Consumers found that they could cook whole meals or prepare snack foods just as easily without having to work hard. You can cook a ham, chicken, or other types of meat for a family dinner just as easily as making popcorn or fudge.

The recipes for microwave cooking started flowing from the food kitchens and the new cooking equipment became very popular as well. Microwaves started a whole new industry of products from foods to the type of materials needed to prepare the foods. The fast way of making such dishes as lasagna that tastes yummy has soon taken over the kitchen oven. You can buy your food prepared and frozen for instant preparation or you can make food from scratch. It is totally up to the cook how they wish to fix that evening meal. The microwave prepares food in an instant only heating up the food not the pan in which it is prepared with.

Today, microwave meals are more much advanced and tasting better than ever. You’re going to find that many of these meals are going to cost you under $2 but it’s a lot easier than going out and spending a fortune for a meal of your own that you have to start from scratch. Sure, a meal in the microwave may not be that healthy but you just have to make sure that you read the ingredients on the back of the box to ensure yourself that it don’t have a load of calories or sodium. These are the ingredients that you will find a lot of when it comes microwave cooking.

When looking for meals in the store, there are many to choose from. You can find meals anywhere from frozen noodle entrees that come with a complete meal like garlic bread and fries. If that doesn’t sound like something you want, you can also look for other things like pot pies, frozen little pizzas and more. Just make sure that when you pick up a box, you look on the back to see if you can cook it in the microwave. Most of the time, you can cook anything from the frozen food section besides the bigger stuff that obviously fits.

When you’re looking at smaller microwaves, make sure that you don’t get one too small because you may find out that what you usually cook may not fit inside the microwave itself. This is why it’s important to look at all the sizes properly and not buy based on the price.

Barbecue Recipe – Adding Favorite Ingredients To It

Barbecuing began in the late 1800s when cattle were driven out from the West by cowboys on horseback. While on their trail, they had nothing to eat except low quality cuts of beef. These men, the cattle barons, were more concerned about earning profit than feeding themselves, so they ate disposable cuts of beef. Their main choice was Brisket, which is a very tough piece of meat. However, the cowboys learned that if the brisket is allowed to cook for a long period of time say 5-7 hours at a very low temperature would make the disposable cuts of beef, a tasty treat. They tried out different ways of cooking in a barbecue, thus making a tastier piece of beef. This is how different recipes came out into existence. The cowboys did not allow the other cowhands to know of their ways of preparing it. They kept it as a secret and guarded it for decades. And that is why Texas barbecue recipes are famous. Barbecue dishes are very easy to prepare if done properly. Smoker is the best type of cooking device which has the cooler heat that cooks the meat at a slower pace. It allows the smoke to penetrate the outer layer of the meat, thereby giving a nice taste. It takes more patience and attention as it takes a lot of time to cook. The best way to cut down the cooking time is by first cooking the Brisket at 200 degrees in the oven till it is half done. Then transfer it to the smoker and finish cooking. Adding favorite ingredients to it will make the Brisket ready to eat. Meat can also be cooked using a grill but it takes lot of time. Traditionally a grill is used for grilling pork, beef, fish, or chicken, by holding it directly over the fire that is fueled by gas or charcoal. A barbecue sauce applied to it will make the dish perfect. There is a problem with lot of barbequed chicken recipes. The outside of the chicken burns before the inside of the chicken is cooked. So, to avoid the problem barbequed chicken recipes use a grill-to-oven method for barbecuing. The chicken is seasoned just slightly with ground black pepper and salt, and then placed on the grill without any barbecue sauce on it. Remove the chicken from the grill when it gets the grill marks, baste it with the barbecue sauce, and finish it off in the oven. The result would be a perfectly-cooked barbecued chicken every time. This recipe also works fine with chicken legs and thigh quarters, except for the fat and calories which will be a bit higher. To prepare a healthier and safer barbecue recipe, the meat should be seared or slow-cooked at a low temperature. If the temperature is very high, carcinogens are more likely to be formed in the meats. Consuming this will lead to cancer. When smoke hits the bare meat, proteins are transformed into benzopyrenes, which are carcinogens. If the meat is well coated with barbecue sauce before grilling, it will protect the outer layer of meat from changing in character. So learning the right way to cook barbeque recipes is good for health.

What is the purpose of vinegar in a barbecue sauce recipe?

Is it for tanginess, or is there another purpose? I tried a new barbecue sauce recipe last night – and it turned out that the recipe called for way too much vinegar. It still smells like the night before Easter in my house. Is there something else I can substitute and still get the same apparent flavor? Or, can I reduce it without compromising the sauce?
gojenni: You asked how much vinegar the recipe calls for — for one batch, the total amount of liquid in the recipe (including the ketchup) is 1 1/2 cups, with 1/2 of THAT being cider vinegar. I doubled the recipe and there was WAY too much vinegar. Thanks for your help!
